WEEK 7: "EDMODO"

EDMODO can revolutionize the way of teaching in a Primary School’s class. EDMODO is a platform like, for example, Miaulario. More or less we know what is a platform, but… do we know what can imply?

Edmodo offers us the possibility to create or join groups, in which we can design and share tasks (with a marks book and the option of attaching documents), tests (with the same options that SurveyMonkey: multiple options, fill in gaps, short answer, match…) and basic surveys (Choose one of the given answers).

Edmodo can be perfectly implemented in class and in children’s homes (do the homework). It is the perfect option to let the students improve their collaborative skills (group job like creating a story) or enjoy their autonomy (individual tasks: do a presentation about your hobbies).

This amazing platform would give the teacher the opportunity to evaluate the children in a quicker way (giving back the document attached with the corrections) and the most important, EVERYTHING is saved in Edmodo. If we think it carefully, Edmodo can be a portfolio or evidence of pupils’ work. All their completed tasks are stock and the teacher can appreciate and analyse each child progress.

Although Edmodo let us assign marks, we would have to create other tools (outside this platform) to evaluate the task posted.

Thanks to the group who deeply explain the READING 7 about assessment, we realise how important is to create an assessment tool that covers all the aimed aspects of the tasks (all the items has to be measured and explained or described). We need to think about which are going to be the characteristics of the task the assessment is going to focus on. We also need to plan which are going to be the criteria to assign a child more or less punctuation, and for this we need to describe the levels of achievement of the proposed task.
A big example of well-defined assessment tool is the rubric in which we even have to choose the values (generally numerical according to the current education) and the descriptors that justify that the children has been assigned to that value.
A right and fair evaluation is the one that can be totally justified (descriptor are essential).
